Ontario Cup DH #1 Build Day at Kelso April 27th

April 9, 2008

Published by porkercon

Hello everybody,

First off I want to say thanks to all the keen builders, I've received a bunch of emails from people excited for the Kelso build day and wondering when it will be. It's always a super fun way to get together, throw some dirt around and see what everyone is riding for 2008.

Build Day Details:

When: April 27th, 10:30 am
Where: Kelso Conservation area, Sunset Lodge (registration lodge), park in the western lot and walk over the big bridge.
What: Bring shovels, rakes, pics, axes etc

Please be sure to tell the Kelso front gate you are an Ontario Cup DH Volunteer, this will get you into the park for free.

I can also sign any documents for student volunteer hours.

I'll be providing snacks and water for everyone, those providing a full days work on the course will receive a discount on Practice Day registration.

Kelso is pretty much all we have here in Ontario aside form Blue so quit you bitchin'. If you want 2000m high mountains, then pack your shit and go to BC. Enough said.

People actually ride big (9") bikes at Kelso? Seriously? Its flat.

I agree that you don't need a 9" travel bike and that's exactly why I ride a 6" f&r bike. Kelso does have a pedal section, there's no denying that but lets not over exagerate it because it's only about 10-15 seconds long so big deal. Just pedal! Everyone else needs to as well so you're not at a disavantage. Unless you riding a 45lb 10" travel rig but thats your problem and you should have given it more thought when purchasing such a huge bike for a flat province. Ontario is not great for DH racing. Our terrain simply doesn't allow for it but please just enjoy the little we have! Kelso Is a fun race and everyone I see there is always having a blast..

Anyways, I see you all there race weekend.

Peter Appleton should appologize to Calabogie peaks for screwing them the last time he held a race there.
Then we could have races at the best hill in Ontario again.

Could not agree more. Bogie is quickly surpassing camp fortune with better trails, features and stunts. They seem to enjoy only technical stuff @ fortune.
Go Bogie, . . . my money goes to you.

you guys need to learn your shit before you start talkin it....pete did nothing to annoy them...it's simply the fact that they want $12 000 per race to match what they get for hosting weddings...the last race was hosted the same weekend as a wedding and i'm more than positive the people were not impressed...and i don't blame em...we're all loud and dirty lol regardless they told pete big money or no hill....and we definatly don't pull in over 12000 per weekend....you bitch about the prices now....just think what they'd be for that weekend...

so get your shit straight and don't go blamin pete

oh and sirflipalot....maybe my knowledge of DH racing is a little off but technical stuff makes up probably 90% of a good course...you don't race on features and stunts...thus fortune being a better course anyway

I found Calabogie. Near Kanata. Pretty far drive from Toronto area....

Junit9, The Kelso race is May 4th. There's a second one a few weeks after that as well.

You have to go to 'Bogie, it's so sick! The trails are very well built, there is a super chill vibe, it has a beach across the street to chill at after a hot days ride. Plus it only costs $22 for a day of lift access DH, you can't get that at Blue! Just go, I implore you....

If you want to start racing, you'd might as well start with kelso. Practice day is the day before the race, may 3rd. Try it out. You won't regret it.

Understandable that biking uphill on a downhill course sucks. That we would love to have thousands of dollars to just get up and move to whistler where there is no pedaling needed for hundreds of kilometers of trails. But on every downhill course there is pedaling to do. Has anyone ever done the full 10km mt. seven psychosis course? Well for those who have not and are complaining about pedaling there bike, there is a section where you really have no choice but to get off your bike and run or walk it uphill for about a minute for some people. Ask Sam Hill, Tyler Morland, Natan Rennie, Steve Peat and the best "freeracer" ever Chris Kovarik. I am sure they did not enjoy it but is that not the point of racing. See who is the best of the best on that course in the given conditions on that day. If you do not like pedaling at Kelso, skip out and wait for the race at Blue or Fortune. If you do not like what i said, take your balls out of your purse, use the time that you would have spent typing me a hate email back and go pedaling so you can pedal that 15 second part at Kelso.
